Hello. Have you heard of #AsiansAreHuman ? It began with the death of Vicha Ratanapakdee, 84 years old man who lived in San Francisco. He was attacked on the street and died at the hospital. (detail next pages) #JusticeForVicha is an opening door to look into racism assaulted against Asians which had become violent across the world ever since covid19. Brutality on elderly and Asian women had long been the problems for communities.

Awareness of discrimination raised in the wake of BLM. The whole world spoke on behalf of Africans-Americans people. I saw it as a great start for our society to understand multi-cultures and diversity. I think we, especially Thailand, can do better at this time while no one speaks up for Vicha and other Asian fellows who were murdered, abused and humiliated.

It’s hard to find solid proof of all racism abuses especially when people tend to overlook it. We are outsiders on the other side of the world, but that doesn’t mean our lives don’t matter.

I don’t think we need to have the highest record just to achieve the right to speak. We can speak. I can’t tell people to advocate for things they fail to comprehend: fear and anger by unfair treatment. Fear that you might get pushed onto train tracks or severely beaten in any minute.

I was yelled at and threatened daily. People labelled me as a walking virus. I got refused by sellers and personnel. I was ridiculed in my own country. I was told these were no big deals. Yes, they weren’t when others died.

#AsiansAreHuman wasn’t created to steal anyone’s spotlights. We are on the same side with every minority against discrimination and racism. We are asking for sentiment and acknowledgement. I deeply believe that the light has to be shared and increased. Not to be stolen from one race to another. We need to support each other so everyone can stand up.

I truly don’t care about how it is not going viral. How the media turn a blind eye to it. How no big figures calling out. Or how people think I’m asking for too much.

For one life, there’s nothing too much to ask for.
